Bostwick Bomb Routs Red Raiders

Feb. 15, 2003

HENDERSON - Sophomore second baseman Morgan Bostwick belted a sixth-inning three-run homer to account for all of the game's scoring and lead the UNLV softball team to a 3-0 victory over Texas Tech at the UNLV Softball Classic at Stephanie Lynn Craig Park on Saturday.

A pitchers' duel throughout the game between Rebel hurler Jackie Kerrigan and Red Raider starter Erin Crawford saw just six hits on the board through five innings. Kerrigan gave up four of those hits, but allowed no more than one in an inning and was able to escape trouble in each in instance.

UNLV had some opportunities, also. Lisa Moses led off the first with a double, but was left stranded at third. A walk, an error and a pair of stolen bases gave the Rebels two threats in the third, but Crawford earned a couple of outs to avoid the jam.

In the fifth, Tech turned to reliever Aime Stines, who tossed a complete game one-hitter against the Rebs last week. Kerrigan's bat was good for a double off of Stines, but again UNLV left its scoring chance at third.

A leadoff walk by Bridget Byrne turned into trouble for the Raiders in the sixth. Byrne beat the throw to second on Becky McDonald's sacrifice attempt, putting two runners aboard for Bostwick. Bostwick then drilled her first homer of the year to left field to put the Rebs on top.

Kerrigan completed a four-hit shutout, her second of the year, and struck out four. The Rebs produced just three hits off of the Tech pitching tandem - two doubles and a home run.

The Rebels continue play in the UNLV Softball Classic throughout the weekend at Stephanie Lynn Craig Park.
