Robert VanKirk hit a pair of home runs in UNLV's 19-4 victory over Villanova on Friday night. He finished the game 4-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs scored.

With the win, the Rebels improve to 7-3 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 0-1.

Robbie Van (1-1) picked up the win in five innings of work. He gave up four runs in the first inning, but held the Wildcats scoreless for the remaining four innings, while striking out six. Matt Luca pitched 2.0 impressive innings. He struck out three batters while keeping Villanova hitless.

Tom Kandybowicz (0-1) earned the loss. He gave up 10 runs off nine hits in 2.1 innings.

UNLV's Peter White finished the game 3-for-5 with one run scored. Andrew D'Angelo, Brent Johnson and Eric Nielsen added a pair of hits each. Nielsen extended his consecutive-game hitting streak to eight games.

Patrick Dobson went 1-for-5 and extended his hitting streak to six games. Eddie Gill went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and Ryan Ruiz went 1-for-3 with four RBIs and a home run.

Villanova was led by Brian Newbold, who finished the game 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.

UNLV and Villanova continue the three-game series on Saturday at 2 p.m.
