LAS VEGAS - Tennessee freshman pitcher Stacey Jennings tossed a perfect game, retiring all 21 Rebel hitters as the Volunteers defeated the UNLV softball team 3-0 at Eller Media Stadium on Friday.
The Rebels (7-11) never even sniffed a hit off Jennings, who fanned six to complete the first perfect game in Volunteer history.
Despite the lack of offense, UNLV remained in the game throughout. Jackie Kerrigan allowed just one run - a solo shot by Tennessee's Katherine Card in the third - through the first six innings of play.
Tennessee (8-4) was able to tack on a pair of insurance runs with a two-out rally in the seventh. A walk and three straight singles gave the Vols a 3-0 edge heading into the bottom of the seventh.
The Rebels bounce back with games against Louisiana-Monroe and Syracuse at 12:30 and 3 p.m., respectively, on Saturday.
