Rebels Whitewash Orangewomen

Feb. 21, 2003

LAS VEGAS - Jackie Kerrigan and Becky McDonald combined to throw a three-hit shutout and the Rebels took advantage of a three-error inning by Syracuse in rolling to a 5-0 victory at Eller Media Stadium on Friday.

Kerrigan, who picked up her seventh win of the year, worked the first five innings, allowing just three hits and striking out two. Freshman Becky McDonald came in to close the game out, permitting just a single in two innings of work.

Offensively, the Rebels (7-10) pounded out 10 hits for the second straight game. Three of those came in the third inning where a Lisa Moses double drove in Bridget Byrne for the winning run.

A monstrous fourth inning saw the Rebels tack on four more runs after Syracuse (1-1) committed three errors in the inning. All four runs were unearned, but helped the Rebels build a 5-0 lead.

Moses was the offensive hero for the game, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and three RBI.

Syracuse 5, Louisiana-Monroe 0
SU's Tara DiMaggio threw a two-hit shutout in the Orangewomen's season opener as Syracuse (1-0) rolled to a 5-0 win over Louisiana-Monroe (4-6). Rachel Park belted a two-run homer, one of eight hits for SU.

Tennessee 5, Louisiana-Monroe 3
Stacey Jennings and Katherine Card hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie and seal a 5-3 victory for Tennessee (7-4) over Louisiana-Monroe. ULM (4-7) tied the game on a two-run shot by Casey Goodman in the top of the fifth, one of four Indian hits on the day.
