LAS VEGAS - Seven Rebels drove in a pair of runs each as the UNLV baseball team defeated Villanova 21-7 on Saturday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. With the win, the Rebels improved to 8-3 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 0-2.
Jake Vose (2-2) picked up the win for the Rebels. He gave up three runs on five hits in 6.0 innings of work. Adam Lesko threw two innings, giving up three runs on five hits. Matt Wagner finished the game, giving up one run on two hits in the final inning.
Villanova's Nick Allen (0-1) earned the loss. He gave up eight runs on 11 hits in 4.0 innings. In all, eight Rebels were hit-by-pitch in the game, bringing the season total to 31 hit batsmen on the season.
Fernando Valenzuala led the Rebels with three hits. He went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Peter White also went 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Andrew D'Angelo finished the game 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and Ryan Ruiz went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Seven other Rebels contributed a single hit each. Eric Nielsen and Johnny Uriegas each homered. Neilsen's homer extends his consecutive-game hitting streak to nine games.
Villanova was led by Mitch Mitchell who went 3-for-5 with a home run.
UNLV and Villanova wrap up the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
