Baseball Shuts Out Villanova

LAS VEGAS - UNLV starter David Seccombe (3-0) kept Villanova scoreless through 6.1 innings en route to a 14-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. Seccombe gave up only five hits and struck out six batters.

With the win, the Rebels improve to 9-3 on the season. The Wildcats fall to 0-3.

Villanova's John Yeager (0-1) earned the loss. He gave up four runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings of work.

Wildcat pitchers hit 16 Rebel batters in the three-game series, upping UNLV's season total to 36 hit batters. The total hit batsmen committed by UNLV and its opponents this season is 55.

Eric Nielsen finished the game 3-for-5 with three RBIs and is one of the only Rebel batters to not cross the plate on Sunday.

Peter White went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. He hit .615 (8-for-13) for the weekend.

Brent Johnson, Johnny Uriegas and Fernando Valenzuela each finished the game 2-for-5. Uriegas drove in two runs and scored twice.

Andrew D'Angelo went 1-for-2 with an RBI and three runs scored. He was hit twice in the game.

Allen Day led Villanova, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

UNLV travels to in-state rival Nevada, Reno for a three-game series next weekend.
