Rebels Overpower Rams

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Marcus Banks scored a game-high 31 points with eight steals and seven assists to lead UNLV past Colorado State 90-57 Monday night.

Banks also converted 10-of-14 field goal attempts and was 11-of-12 from the free-throw line. Also for UNLV (13-6, 2-4 Mountain West Conference), James Peters scored 15 points, while Dalron Johnson added 12 points and three blocks.

For Colorado State (14-6, 3-2), which averaged 78.4 point per game coming in, Andy Birley led with 15 points, going 4-of-8 from the 3-point range. Teammate Brian Greene added 11 points and Matt Williams had 10 points. For the game, UNLV outscored the Rams on fast-break points 19-0 and in the paint 46-22. The Rebels shot 56.4 percent from the field, converting 31-of-55 attempts. UNLV also had 18 steals for the game.

After the Rams jumped to a 4-0, the Rebels ran off the next 19 of 21 points and never trailed again. The Rebels had three 17 first-half leads, including a 41-24 halftime lead, their largest advantages of the half. For the first half, the Rebels converted 17-of-23 field-goal attempts for 73.9 percent, while the Rams were 8-of-21 for 38.1 percent. In fast-break points for the half, UNLV outscored Colorado State 14-0 and points in the paint, 24-6. UNLV's lead never went under 17 points in the second half and built its largest lead at the end of the game.
