LAS VEGAS - The UNLV baseball team used a six-run third inning and eight-run seventh inning to defeat the College of Charleston 15-6 on Saturday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. With the win, the Rebels improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 0-2.
Rebel starter Jake Vose (1-1) picked up the win. He struggled early in the game, giving up three runs in the first inning, but recovered to pitch a solid five innings. He gave up five runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
Adam Lesko pitched three innings, giving up only one unearned run off four hits. Ryan Braun threw the final innings, giving up a single hit with one strikeout.
Charleston's Reid Price (0-1) earned the loss. He gave up five runs on six hits in 2.0 innings of work.
Patrick Dobson and Peter White led the Rebels offensively. Dobson finished the game 3-for-6 with four RBIs and three runs scored, while White went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored.
Eric Nielsen, Ryan Ruiz and Brent Johnson added a pair of hits each.
Charleston was led by Brett Spivey, who finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Head Coach John Pawlowski was ejected in the third inning for arguing a balk call.
UNLV and College of Charleston wrap up the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
