Baseball Falls To UNR 14-6

RENO, Nev. - The UNLV baseball team dropped a 14-6 decision to in-state rival Nevada, Reno on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Rebels fall to 10-4 on the season, while the Wolf Pack improves to 5-10.

David Seccombe (3-1) earned his first loss of the season. He gave up six runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings of work and struck out seven batters.

Ben Scheinbaum, James Thompson and Shane Clatterbuck combined to finish the game.

UNR's Justin Sherman (2-2) pitched eight strong innings for the win. He gave up four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.

Fernando Valenzuela and Brent Johnson each homered for the second straight game. Valenzuela finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored, while Johnson went 1-for-4.

Patrick Dobson went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. He extended his consecutive game hitting-streak to nine games.

Eric Neilsen's 11-game hitting streak came to an end after his only at-bat resulted in a ground-out to third base.

Robert VanKirk finished the game 2-for-4 with one RBI. Johnny Uriegas and Ryan Ruiz added a single hit each.

Chris Dickerson led the Wolf Pack, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored.

UNLV and UNR conclude the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
