Baseball Falls To UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - The UNLV baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision to UC Irvine on Tuesday night. The Rebels and Anteaters will play again in two weeks when UNLV plays host on March 25. With the loss, the Rebels fall to 13-7. The Anteaters improve to 7-12 on the season.

Robbie Van (2-2) pitched well, but earned the loss. He gave up three runs on three hits, while striking out five. James Thompson finished the game. He gave up only two hits in 2.0 innings of work.

Kris Krise (2-1) picked up the win for UC Irvine. He threw two hitless innings with one walk. Paul French earned the save.

The Rebels managed only five hits in the game, two from Brent Johnson. He finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate.

Ryan Ruiz, Eddie Gill and Robert VanKirk contributed a single hit each. Fernando Valenzuela scored UNLV's only run. He reached base on a walk.

Patrick Dobson's 14-game hitting streak came to an end after going 0-for-3 on the night.

UNLV opens conference play on Friday when it hosts Air Force for a three-game set. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
