PROVO, Utah - BYU's Paul Jacinto (2-4) threw a complete game one-hitter to defeat UNLV 3-1 on Friday night in Provo, Utah. Jacinto struck out seven Rebels, walked three and gave up one run in nine innings of work. The loss snaps a five-game winning steak for UNLV and gives the Rebels their first loss in conference play.
UNLV falls to 18-8 overall, 4-1 in Mountain West Conference play, while BYU improve to 7-13, 2-3 in league play.
Robbie Van (2-3) picks up the loss for the Rebels. He gave up three runs on six hits in 5.1 innings of work. Adam Lesko pitched well in relief. He threw 2.2 innings, giving up only two hits and striking out one.
UNLV's only run came in the sixth inning on an Eric Nielsen sacrifice-fly to center field. He scored Peter White, who reached on a single to left field. He was the only Rebel to record a hit against Jacinto.
UNLV and BYU wrap-up the three-game series on Saturday at 2 p.m.
