LAS VEGAS - The UNLV baseball team shutout the University of Memphis 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. With the win, the Rebels improve to 12-6 on the season, while the Tigers fall to 3-6.
UNLV starter David Seccombe was forced to leave the game with an injury after 1.1 innings of work. He kept the Tigers hitless and struck out three in his short appearance.
Matt Wagner (1-0) relieved Seccombe and earned the win. He gave up only to hits with six strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. Robbie Van finished the game, throwing 1.1 innings and giving up only two hits.
Corey Kines (0-1) picked up the loss for the Tigers. He gave up four runs on three hits in 1.2 innings of work.
Robert VanKirk homered for the fifth time this season and finished the game 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored.
Patrick Dobson extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a 2-for-4 outing.
Ryan Ruiz finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Brent Johnson also contributed a pair of hits in the game.
UNLV and Memphis wrap-up the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
