LAS VEGAS - Becky McDonald struck out 10 and threw a complete game for her first collegiate victory as the UNLV softball defeated New Mexico State, 3-1 at Eller Media Stadium on Saturday.
The semifinal victory earned the Rebels (12-13) a spot in the championship game of the weekend's mini tournament where they will face intrastate rival Nevada-Reno at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
UNLV drew first blood in the second when Kacey Ellis and Pauline Glenn hit back-to-back doubles for the game's first run.
The Aggies (2-26) drew even, however, when Breana Bohls double to the left center gap scored Christine Stephens in the fourth.
The Rebels quickly regained the lead on Bridget Byrne's RBI single in the bottom of the fourth and added an insurance run in the fifth when Lisa Moses scored after drawing a leadoff walk.
