Runnin' Rebels Roll Past Aztecs

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Dalron Johnson scored 25 points to lead UNLV past San Diego State 83-72 in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Johnson, a senior who was playing his final regular-season home game, was 10-for-13 from the field and had 14 first-half points.

UNLV (19-9, 8-6 Mountain West Conference) shot 62 percent from the field as a team and made 50 percent of its three-point tries.

Evan Burns led San Diego State (15-12, 6-8) with 23 points. The Aztecs shot 51 percent from the field.

After leading 39-30 at halftime, UNLV never trailed in second half. The Rebels' largest lead of the game was 57-45 with 12:53 left.

San Diego State cut the lead to five points four different times in the second half and pulled within four, 64-60, with 6:48 left but would get no closer.

Marcus Banks had 19 points for the Rebels and Jermaine Lewis had 15.

Mike Mackell had 18 points and nine rebounds for San Diego State, and Tony Bland added 13 points.

UNLV and San Diego State will meet in the first round of the Mountain West tournament on Thursday if BYU beats Colorado State Saturday night. If Colorado State wins Saturday, the Rams will play UNLV, and San Diego State will play Wyoming.
