SALT LAKE CITY - The 21st ranked UNLV baseball team moved to 11-2 in Mountain West Conference play with a 9-4 victory over Utah on Thursday night at Franklin Covey Field. The win improves the Rebels overall record to 27-10, while the Utes fall to 16-17, 4-8 in league play.

UNLV reliever Ben Scheinbaum (4-0) picked up the win. He threw 3.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits. Starter Matt Luca gave up three runs off five hits in 5.1 innings of work.

Utah's Clay Westmoreland (3-3) suffered the loss, pitching 6.1 innings. He gave up five runs on four hits while striking out four.

Brent Johnson and Garett Shitanishi led the Rebels with a pair of hits each. Shitanishi went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Johnson finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored.

Robert VanKirk went 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Four other Rebels contributed a single hit each.

Patrick Dobson went 1-for-4, extending his consecutive-game hitting streak to nine games.

UNLV and Utah play game-two of the three-game set on Friday at 2 p.m. (PST).
