LAS VEGAS - The 21st-ranked UNLV baseball team dropped a 12-4 decision to UC Riverside on Tuesday night at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. With the loss, the Rebels fall to 32-12 on the season. The Highlanders improve to 30-11.
Giovanni Pupo (3-1) is credited with the loss despite giving up only two of the 12 runs. He gave up three hits in 1.2 innings of work.
Shane Clatterbuck and Ryan Braun pitched well in relief. They each threw a hitless inning with Braun striking out the side to finish the game.
UCR's Brian Hoff (4-5) picked up the win. He threw three innings, giving up two runs off three hits.
The Rebels scattered seven hits the game, three from junior third baseman Brent Johnson. Johnson went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Joe Wickman, Patrick Dobson, Fernando Valenzuela and Peter White contributed a single hit each. Valenzuela and Wickman each drove in a run.
Eddie Gill went 0-for-3 in the game, snapping his 11-game hitting streak.
UCR's Brian Wahlbrink went 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored.
UNLV hosts BYU for a three-game series beginning Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.
