Come From Behind Series Sweep

LAS VEGAS - The 20th-ranked UNLV baseball team picked up the three-game sweep over BYU with an 11-10 come-from-behind victory on Saturday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The Rebels were down 7-1 before tying the game with six runs in the sixth. The Cougars responded with three in the seventh, but the Rebels came back with a pair of runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the eventual victory.

With the win, the Rebels improve to 34-12, 18-3 in Mountain West Conference play. The Cougars fall to 19-20, 11-10 in league play.

Senior catcher Stephen Ghutzman homered three times in the game, a solo shot in the third, a three-run homer in the sixth and a two run home run in the seventh. He finished the day 3-for-3 with six RBI and three runs scored.

Peter White also went 3-for-3 in the game, all singles. Fernando Valenzuela finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Eddie Gill went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Ryan Ruiz homered to go 1-for-3 with two RBI.

UNLV used six pitchers in the three and a half hour game. Ryan Bruan (4-1), who pitched the final two innings, picked up the win. He kept the Cougars hitless while striking out two.

The loss goes to Michel Bergeron (4-3), who gave up six runs off five hits in 2.0 innings of work.

UNLV begins a six-game road trip with three games next weekend at San Diego State.
