LAS VEGAS - The 24th ranked UNLV baseball team scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch in the ninth inning to defeat New Mexico 7-6 on Saturday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. It is the second straight come-from-behind win for the Rebels who are now 5-1 when tied after eight innings of play.

With the win, the Rebels improve to 25-9 overall, 9-2 in Mountain West Conference play. The Lobos fall to 23-12, 7-4 in league play.

UNLV reliever Jason Guerra (2-0) picked up his second win in as many days. He did it yesterday after facing only a single batter, but lengthened his outing on Saturday to three batters.

Starter Robbie Van went 5.0 innings, giving up five runs, two earned, on seven hits. He struck out five and walked four.

New Mexico's Joe Salas (0-3) earned the loss. He gave up two runs on one hit, and gave up the winning run on the wild pitch.

Eddie Gill led the Rebels offensively, going 3-for-4 at the plate. He drove in one run and scored twice.

Eric Nielsen went 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored. Peter White, Robert VanKirk, Patrick Dobson and Fernando Valenzuela contributed a single hit each.

Both head coach Jim Schlossnagle and second baseman Ryan Ruiz were ejected from the game.

UNLV and New Mexico wrap up the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
