Sweep Denied

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The 16th-ranked UNLV baseball team dropped a 13-10 decision to New Mexico on Sunday afternoon at Lobo Field. The loss denies the Rebels the series and season sweep and drops the team to 39-14, 22-5 in the Mountain West Conference. The Lobos improve to 34-21, 16-10 in league play.

Ryan Braun (5-2) picked up the loss for the Rebels. He came in with the game tied at 10 runs apiece and gave up three in the eighth. In one inning pitched, he allowed two hits and two earned runs, while striking out one.

UNLV starter Jake Vose gave up six runs off five hits in 5.0 innings of work.

Joe Salas (1-5) earned the win. He pitched 1.1 innings, giving up only a single hit.

Garett Shitanishi led the Rebels with three hits. He finished the game 3-for-5 with three runs scored.

Fernando Valenzuela went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. He also hit his team-leading 12th home run of the season.

Brent Johnson and Eric Nielsen added a pair of hits each. Johnson went 2-for-5 two RBI and two runs scored, while Nielsen finished the game 2-for-4.

Eddie Gill hits his seventh home run of the season, going 1-for-4 in the game with three RBI and two runs scored.

UNLV wraps up the regular season with three games against Utah beginning on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
