SAN DIEGO - The 18th ranked UNLV baseball team defeated San Diego State on Saturday afternoon 15-3 at Tony Gwynn Stadium. With the win, the Rebels improve to 37-12, 20-3 in Mountain West Conference play and maintain a five-game lead over New Mexico. UNLV needs just two more wins this season to clinch at least a share of the MWC regular season title. The Aztecs fall to 21-26, 13-10 in league play.

Fernando Valenzuela homered twice in the game, finishing 2-for-3 with six RBI and two runs scored.

Patrick Dobson was flawless, going 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. He put together two singles, a double and a home run.

Peter White went 2-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored, extending his consecutive game hitting-streak to 10 games.

Garett Shitanishi went 3-for-5 with a home run and three runs scored. Brent Johnson also finished the game 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored.

Matt Luca (4-0) picked up the win for the Rebels. He gave up only four hits in 5.0 innings of work. Luca threw 11.1 innings of hitless baseball against San Diego State dating back to his no-hitter against the Aztecs on March 28.

Joe Carque (4-3) earned the loss for San Diego State. He gave up eight run off eight his in 3.0 innings of work.

UNLV and San Diego State wrap-up the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
