SAN DIEGO - The 18th ranked UNLV baseball team suffered its first shutout of the season, falling 3-0 to San Diego State at Tony Gwynn Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Rebels to 37-13, 20-4 in Mountain West Conference play. They now hold a four-game lead in the conference standings with six to play. The Aztecs improve to 22-26, 14-10 in league play.
After putting together a 15-run, 21-hit performance on Saturday, UNLV could manage only three hits in Sunday's contest. Junior third baseman Brent Johnson contributed two hits, both doubles, giving him 16 on the season and 66 in his three-year career. His total ties the school record for career doubles set by Bill Max, who played from 1978-81.
Ryan Ruiz added the only other hit, finishing the game 1-for-3 at the plate.
Jake Vose (6-4) earned the loss for the Rebels. He gave up two runs in 7.1 innings of work. Vose gave up ten hits and struck out seven. Ryan Braun finished the game, giving up one run off two hits in 0.2 innings.
SDSU's Drew Jenson improved to 7-1 with the win. He threw 2.1 innings, giving up only one hit.
UNLV continues its six-game road swing with a three-game series at New Mexico beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
