Baseball Completes Staff

Aug. 20, 2003

LAS VEGAS - UNLV head baseball coach Buddy Gouldsmith has announced the hiring of Chuck Hazzard as the team's volunteer assistant coach. Hazzard's primary responsibility will be working with infielders.

"We are very excited to announce the addition of Chuck to our staff," said Gouldsmith. "He brings valuable experience from one of the nation's top programs and his addition to the staff should have an immediate impact on our student-athletes."

Hazzard was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Florida where he was a two-time All-SEC selection and two-time All-American. Hazzard helped the Gators to College World Series appearances in 1996 and 1998. In 1996, he became the only player in school history to be named First Team All-SEC, All-Tournament SEC, All-Tournament South 1 Regional and All-Tournament College World Series. Hazzard also holds the single-season record at Florida for most postseason home runs with seven. For his career, Hazzard ranks in the top 10 of every offensive category, with the exception of stolen bases. He was also an 18th-round selection of the New York Yankees.

Since graduating, Chuck worked as a database administrator for Metasolv Software, a company that provides software solutions to the telecommunications industry. He left Metasolv to be the Vice President of Sales for Stylist Wear, Inc., where he worked until this past summer when he left to pursue a career in coaching. While Hazzard was working in the private industry, he also coached in his free time for the Dallas Mustangs and most recently for the North Texas Red Hawks. Both the Red Hawks and the Mustangs are elite summer programs for 17 and 18 year olds.

Hazzard was born on November 1, 1974. He has an older sister, Amanda, who is married to former Texas A&M catcher David Rollen. Hazzard's father, Charlie, was a four-year baseball letterwinner at the University of Notre Dame and his mother, Carol, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a nursing degree.
