UNLV will look to go 2-0 for the first time in four years when it makes its initial road trip of the season by visiting Big 12 Conference member Kansas Saturday ... The Rebels have only started the season with two straight victories 10 times in their 35-year history and only twice in the last 18 campaigns ... KU plays its second consecutive home game after opening with a loss to Northwestern 28-20 on Aug. 30 ... Saturday will mark the 11th time the Rebels face a team from the league overall ... The only BCS conference against which UNLV has faced more teams is the Pac-10 (12 games) ... UNLV is 1-0 vs. Kansas, 1-2 vs. Baylor, 0-1 vs. Nebraska, 0-2 vs. Kansas State and 0-3 vs. Iowa State ... UNLV has won in a Big 12 stadium just once in six all-time attempts, and it took a miracle, as Kevin Thomas returned a fumble 100 yards on the final play of the game to shock Baylor 27-24 in head coach John Robinson's second game at the school on Sept. 11, 1999 ... There is only one Big 12 team currently on UNLV's future schedule as the Rebels will go to Iowa State in 2006 and the Cyclones will return to Sam Boyd Stadium in 2008 ... UNLV's 28-18 win over Toledo was its first victory in a season opener since 1999 and the first to come at home since downing Eastern Michigan 17-3 on Sept. 3, 1994 ... The Rebels improved to 23-13 all-time in season openers and 14-6 when they come at home. However, UNLV has won only two of its last nine lid-lifters, both under Robinson.
JAYHAWKS vs. REBELS NOTES
Kansas and UNLV meet for only the second time ever and for the first time in Lawrence ... The Rebels played a two-year series with KU's in-state rival Kansas State in 1993-94 ... John Robinson is 10-3 vs. teams that now make up the Big 12 Conference: 3-0 vs. Texas Tech, 2-0 vs. Oklahoma, 2-0 vs. Baylor, 1-0 vs. Kansas, 1-0 vs. Texas A&M, 1-1 vs. Missouri and 0-2 vs. Iowa State ... The two schools have played each other three times in men's basketball with the Jayhawks taking each game, including the most recent meeting in 1998 ... Jayhawk DL recruit Chuck Jones originally signed with UNLV out of Long Beach Poly HS but ended up at Pasadena City College instead.
