For the second straight year, UNLV (11-2) takes on San Diego State (5-8) in its Mountain West conference opener, as the Lady Rebels host SDSU on Saturday night at 7:30 pm in the Cox Pavilion. They will also be looking to win their MWC opener for the third straight season, having won at New Mexico in 2001-02 and at San Diego State in 2002-03, and are 2-2 all-time in MWC openers.
UNLV has the best overall record in the MWC at 11-2 entering conference play, is riding a league-high six-game win streak, are 8-0 at home this year, and received one vote in this week's ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coaches' Poll. They are dominating the conference statistics, as a Lady Rebel leads the conference in six of the 12 categories, including scoring and rebounding.
The Lady Rebels have been on a tear offensively, averaging 73.8 points per game, which leads the Mountain West Conference, and are a perfect 9-0 when they score 70 or more points. All but one of their 10 wins this year have been by 10 points or more, and their +14.3 winning margin is also top in the conference.
UNLV has also been very successful on the boards, leading the MWC with a +8.8 rebounding margin (15th in the nation), and also leads the conference in steals with 10.7 spg.
Junior transfer forward RanDee Henry is close to setting a career milestone, as she is 12 points away from reaching 1,000 points in her three-year career at Detroit Mercy and UNLV.
