SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Both the UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams dropped a dual meet to UC Santa Barbara on Saturday afternoon. The Rebel men dropped a close 135-127 decision, while the women fell by a score of 149-113.
On the women's side, the meet was highlighted by Alyson Noble winning both the 200 and 500 freestyle events. She won the 200 free in 1:52.64 and took the 500 in 5:00.56. It was a 1-2-3 finish for the women in the 500 free with Julie babin taking second in 5:02.69 and Allison Zick finishing third in 5:04.31.
Other individual winners included Shayna Burns in the 100 breast (1:05.33) and Tiffany Vincent in the 100 fly (58.37).
While the women's team had their way in the distance events, the men dominated the sprint events going 1-2-3 in both the 50 and 100 freestyles.
Jonathan Hugo won the 50 free in 21.24 with Brandon Nelms taking second in 21.49 and Bjorn Eriksson finishing third in 21.61. The 100 free was won by Joe Bartoch in 46.22 with Hugo second in 46.74 and Nelms third in 46.86.
Hugo also won the 100 back in 50.26, while Bartoch took the 100 fly in 50.22.
Michael Day and Patrick Adams each won a pair of events on the day. Day finished first in the 100 breast (57.86) and the 200 IM (1:54.97), while Adams won the 100 breast (57.86) and 200 breast (2:05.94).
The men capped the meet with a win the 200 free relay. The team of Hugo, Bartoch, Nelms and Eriksson won in 1:23.21.
