LAS VEGAS - Senior setter Nicki King was named the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for her outstanding all-around performance in the Rebels' 3-0 sweep of San Diego State, the league announced Monday.
It is the first MWC weekly award for the Phoenix, Ariz., native, who handed out 48 assists to go along with nine digs and four kills as UNLV recorded its third consecutive sweep of a MWC opponent. King averaged 16 assists per game in the win over the Aztecs, helping UNLV to a .422 hitting percentage, the first time that the Rebels hit over the .400 mark as a team this season. UNLV won its third straight MWC match for the first time since the 2002 season.
King has started at setter since her freshman campaign with the Rebels and is currently the all-time leader in assists with 3,742. King eclipsed the UNLV record her junior year and now sits fourth all-time in the MWC record books as well. She is also third all-time in digs in Rebel history with 724 and trails leader Leiana Oswald (2000-03) by 88 digs with seven matches remaining in the season.
