Rebels Looking To Lasso Cowgirls

This Week: The Rebels finished 8-6 in the Mountain West Conference, 14-11 overall, to earn the fourth seed for the 2004 Mountain West Conference Tournament and will play Wyoming in the opening round. Match time is set for 12:30 p.m. (PST) at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo. on Nov. 18. UNLV beat Wyoming both times the two schools played this season, 3-2 in Las Vegas and 3-1 in Laramie, Wyo. In other first-round match-ups, MWC co-champion and top-seed Utah opens the tournament with Air Force, the eighth seed. Third-seeded BYU plays sixth-seeded San Diego State and then second-seeded Colorado State closes the first day of the tournament against seventh-seeded New Mexico.

ABOUT THE COWGIRLS: Wyoming finished with a 13-13 record, including 6-8 in the Mountain West, to earn the fifth seed. The Cowgirls have lost three in a row and four of their last five, with their only win during the skid coming against San Diego State, 3-0. Rachel Smith leads the Cowgirls and is third in the MWC with 3.76 kills per game. Setter Amy Doman is handing out 13.13 assists per game, second in the MWC. Doman has 4,791 career assists, which is the MWC record.

2004 RECORD:
13-13, 6-8 in the Mountain West Conference. SERIES RECORD: Series is tied between the two schools at 9-9. TWO MEETINGS THIS YEAR: UNLV won 3-2 in Las Vegas, Nev., on Oct. 3 and won 3-1 in Laramie, Wyo., on Oct. 29. HEAD COACH: Pat Stangle, 13-13 in his first year at Wyoming.

CSTV TO TELEVISE ENTIRE MWC TOURNAMENT: For the fifth-straight year, the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Championship will be televised, with this season's tournament marking the first time ever that all seven championship matches will be made available to a national audience by College Sports Television (CSTV). The MWC will be the only conference to have all matches from its conference championship nationally televised. The 2004 MWC Volleyball Championship will be held Nov. 18-20 at Moby Arena on the campus of Colorado State University. Fans in the Las Vegas area can watch the tournament on the CSTV Network on DirecTV channel 610.
