The news keeps getting worse for the UNLV Lady Rebels, as they play their 2004-05 home opener on Friday night against UCF at 7 pm in the Cox Pavilion. UNLV, who split its two games in the WBCA/BTI Classic this past weekend while playing with two injuried starters, lost a third starter to injury during practice on Thursday, as senior center Amy Loftus went down with a right ankle sprain, and is out indefintely.

Already having played without two starters from last year, (All-Conference senior forward Sherry McCracklin (right Achilles) and junior forward Nikki Hitchens (left MCL), the Lady Rebels still nearly pulled off a win over No. 14 Minnesota, having a chance to take the lead late in the game and cutting the score to five in the final minute before falling 77-69. UNLV was impressive however in coming back the next day to take a win over a SEC team for the second straight season, 66-63 over South Carolina.
