LAS VEGAS, Nev. - UNLV's Zeke Parraz is among 58 student-athletes on the 2005 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List released on Nov. 23 by the College Baseball Foundation in Lubbock, Texas. The Wallace Award is given annually to the national college baseball player of the year and Kurt Suzuki of Cal State Fullerton won the honor last year.
Parraz, who attended Green Valley High School in Henderson, Nev., hit .385 with 10 doubles and 22 RBI last year for UNLV. He also had 60 assists and a .908 fielding percentage at shortstop for the Rebels.
The Wallace Watch will be trimmed to 12 semifinalists on May 24. The selection committee will then choose three finalists following the NCAA Super Regionals in Omaha, Neb., on June 16, the day before the start of the College World Series. The committee is comprised of a national panel of coaches, media, sports information directors and former winners.
