LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's swimming and diving team pushed its record to 2-0 after winning its Mountain Conference opener 125-116 over Utah, while the Rebel women (0-2, 0-1 MWC) fell to the Utes 141-97. The Ute men fell to 0-2 on the season, while the women improved to 3-0, 2-0 in league action.

In the men's meet, Utah took an early lead after winning a tight race in the opening event, taking the 400-yard medley in a time of 3:21.42, just .07 ahead of UNLV. The Rebels took the lead back after taking four of the top five places in the 1000 yard free, led by Kyle Goodrich's first-place time of 9:39.69. The win was one of two on the day for Goodrich, as he also took first in the 500 yard free (4:39.80). Trailing the Utes 105-98 with just two events left, the Rebels came up big by with a one-two finish in the 200 breast by Thomas Bosnyak (2:05.07) and Devin Phillips, and a 1-3 finish in the 400-free relay to take the victory. Also winning events on the day for UNLV were John Byers in the 200 free (1:43.63) and Joe Bartoch in the 100 free (45.68).

Depth for the UNLV women kept them close, but saw the Utes win the first 11 events of the meet on the way to the team victory. The two wins for the Rebels came from Shayna Burns in the 200 breast (2:20.29) and in the 400 free relay (3:34.84).

Next up for UNLV, the women travel to Reno for a Thursday meet against the UNR Wolfpack.
