MALIBU, Calif. (AP) -Glen McGowan scored 27 points and Kingsley Costain added 19 off the bench as Pepperdine held off UNLV for its seventh consecutive win 86-78 on Wednesday.
In what proved to be a game of runs, UNLV (2-3) cut a 24-point Pepperdine lead down to nine with a 19-4 spurt early in the second half, capped by Romel Beck's three-point play that made it 59-50 with 12:02 left.
The Rebels later got to within seven when Jerel Blassingame scored on a driving lay-up that made it 70-63 with 6:12 remaining, but Pepperdine (7-1) answered with a 6-0 run and was never threatened again down the stretch.
Odartey Blankson led UNLV with 22 points and was 12-of-14 from the free-throw line. Beck and Blassingame added 18 and 17 points, respectively.
Pepperdine scored the first seven points of the second half to lead 55-31 before UNLV finally started to climb back.
