LAS VEGAS - UNLV sophomore Henner Nehles has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the second time in his career, the league announced Wednesday.
Nehles went 2-0 at No. 1 singles last weekend and teamed with Joel Kielbowicz to go 1-1 in doubles competition as the Rebels traveled to face No. 26 Tulane and No. 75 New Orleans.
Against the Green Wave, Nehles rallied after losing the first set to top eighth-ranked Michael Kogan 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8), marking the highest ranked opponent a Rebel has defeated since former All-American Thomas Schneiter shocked top-ranked Al Garland of Pepperdine on April 6, 2002.
On Sunday against New Orleans, Nehles defeated Luka Bernard 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (10-8) to improve to 6-2 in singles this season.
The native of Duisburg, Germany, also won the league award on March 12, 2003.
