UNLV Rallies Past Aztecs 68-65

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Romel Beck scored 25 points as UNLV rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to beat San Diego State 68-65 on Tuesday night.

UNLV (13-9, 4-5 Mountain West) was playing its first game without head coach Charlie Spoonhour, who resigned Tuesday due to health concerns. His son, assistant coach Jay Spoonhour, is serving as interim head coach.

Beck was 9-of-12 from the field and 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Jerel Blassingame added 10 assists and 10 points, including 4-of-4 free throw shooting in the final 28 seconds of the game.

Odartey Blankson added 12 points and seven rebounds.

Aerick Sanders led San Diego State (12-12, 3-6) with 16 points. Marcus Slaughter added 13 points and 15 rebounds. Brandon Heath, who missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining, had 13 points.

UNLV jumped to a 17-7 lead, but the Aztecs went on a 14-3 run to take the lead with 7:57 left in the first half. The Rebels led 32-28 at halftime. The Aztecs took the lead at 42-39 with 13:07 remaining, and were up by 10 with 9:37 to play.
