Rebels Shut Down Wolf Pack

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV baseball team (5-3) kept Nevada, Reno from rounding the bases on Saturday afternoon en route to a 9-0 rout of the rival Wolf Pack (4-5). Lefthander Jake Vose (1-1) held the Wolf Pack to just four hits in his seven innings on the mound while striking out five.

The Rebels busted open a scoreless game in the bottom of the third inning off of RBIs by junior right fielder Eric Nielsen and senior first baseman Eddie Gill. Center fielder Brent Johnson doubled to right field, driving in two more runs, giving the Rebels a 4-0 lead.

In the fourth, senior second baseman Ryan Ruiz hit a 3 RBI double, and in the fifth, third baseman Zeke Parraz and catcher Justin Tellam each drove in runs to make the final score 9-0.

Tellam, who came into the game with only two hits all season, finished the afternoon 3-for-4, with two runs scored. Brent Johnson was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Ryan Ruiz was 1-2 with 3 RBIs. Nielsen, Gill, Parraz, shortstop Peter White and designated hitter C.J. Ebarb each added a hit for the Rebels.

Righthander Chris Scott (1-1) picked up the loss for the Wolf Pack.

The Rebels will look for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The Game will be broadcast live on KSHP AM 1400.
