LAS VEGAS - At halftime of UNLV's men's basketball game against BYU on March 6 at the Thomas & Mack Center, the UNLV athletics department will bring back part of the history and tradition of Runnin' Rebel basketball by honoring the UNLV Runnin' Rebel Basketball Alumni Association.
The UNLV Runnin' Rebel Basketball Alumni Assocation was founded by former Runnin' Rebel Lonnie Wright for the purpose of helping to provide continuing education toward graduation for former UNLV men's basketball student-athletes along with student-athletes from other UNLV programs.
Annually from 1977-90, the alumni association put on a summer basketball game pitting the likes of North Carolina, UCLA and Georgetown alumni vs. the Runnin' Rebel alumni. Proceeds from those games went directly to help fund scholarships for student-athletes to complete their degrees. Additionally, the alumni association was involved with many other fundraising activities to help support UNLV athletics.
Any former student-athletes are encouraged to attend and be part of this event. If you are planning on attending, please contact the UNLV athletics department at (702) 895-1620.
