LAS VEGAS - The UNLV baseball team dropped their season opener to No. 4 Cal State Fullerton 9-8 in a game that lasted just under five hours. It took the Titans (1-3) until the bottom of the 11th inning to secure the win against the Rebels (0-1), who had battled to keep the game close all night.

Peter White was solid at the plate for the Rebels, with a perfect 4-4 performance, including a two-run home run in the second inning. Ryan Ruiz was 3-5 at the plate with two runs and an RBI, while Eric Nielson was 2-5 with one run scored.

Scott Sarver (1-0) picked up the win for the Titans and Matt Minor (0-1) was credited with the loss for the Rebels.

The series continues on Saturday at 6:00 p.m., with UNLV's Jake Vose squaring off against Fullerton's Ricky Romero. The game will be broadcast live on KSHP AM 1400.
