SALT LAKE CITY - UNLV men's basketball senior forward J.K. Edwards was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Edwards won the award after averaging 15.5 points and eight rebounds, while shooting 65.0 percent from the field (13-of-20) and 83.3 percent from the free throw line (5-of-6) in two games last week. He also had three blocked shots and three steals in 29.5 minutes per game.
In the Runnin' Rebels 63-50 victory over Air Force last Monday, Edwards, a product of Clemmons, N.C., led all scorers with 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor. He also grabbed six rebounds and had a blocked shot and a steal as UNLV handed Air Force its first MWC loss of the season.
In Saturday's 64-61 loss at BYU, Edwards recorded his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. He was 4-of-4 from the free throw line and also added two blocks, two steals and one assist.
This is UNLV's first player of the week award of the season and first of Edwards' career.
