Chippewa Challenge

LAS VEGAS - UNLV (10-6) will close out its ten-game homestand against the Chippewas of Central Michigan (2-4). Last week, the Rebels took two-of-three from Manhattan, and are 10-2 at home.

The Rebels continue to be led offensively by senior second baseman Ryan Ruiz, who leads the Rebel regulars in batting average (.456), hits (26), RBI (21), and walks (19). Ruiz also boasts an impressive slugging percentage of .789, and is tied for the club lead in home runs with shortstop Peter White, at 3 each.

All together, the Rebels are batting .318, with eight players above the .300 mark. Center fielder Andrew D'Angelo had a big weekend against the Jaspers, going 7-for-12 with four doubles and 5 RBI.

The Rebel pitching staff continues to be led by starters Matt Luca and Jake Vose. Luca currently leads the team in strikeouts with 29, while Vose boasts the club's best ERA of 2.31. Closer Matt Minor has been solid in his eight appearances this season, allowing just 5 runs in 10.2 innings, while picking up 9 strikeouts.
