LAS VEGAS - The Rebels baseball team (25-16, 12-5 MWC) will look to regain first place in the Mountain West Conference as they take on Air Force (5-30, 0-11 MWC) in a three-game series this weekend. The Rebels have been struggling as of late, having lost three key players to injury, and falling in two-of-three contests last weekend to New Mexico. The game times for this weekend's series will be: Friday at 1:00 p.m. (PST), Saturday at noon (PST), and Sunday at 11:00 a.m. (PST). The games will be available via Internet gametracker at www.unlvrebels.com.
Senior shortstop Peter White continues to lead the Rebel starters in batting average at .380. White also leads the club in home runs with six. The Rebels will look for some power from junior right-fielder Eric Nielsen, who is currently hitting .359 with 45 RBI and five home runs.
On Friday, the Rebels will start Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week, David Seccombe (6-1, 5.34 ERA, 62 K) and expect big things from Saturday's starter Jake Vose (6-3, 4.17 ERA, 46 K).
The Falcons will host the Rebels after a week's rest as their series against BYU was cancelled last weekend because of snow. Junior shortstop Nathan DeRohan has been the anchor of the Falcon offense, leading the club the club with a .315 batting average and 28 26 RBI. Freshman third baseman Karl Bolt is hitting .327 with 17 RBI and 2 homers.
On the mound, the Falcons will start sophomore right-hander Paul Vignola (1-7, 11.32 ERA, 25 K) on Friday, freshman right-hander Mitch Brown (0-3, 7.79 ERA, 25 K) on Saturday and sophomore right-hander Clayton Couch (2-3, 6.64 ERA, 25 K) on Sunday.
The Rebels will head to Southern California for a rematch against UC Riverside on May 4th before returning home on May 7th to open a three-game series against Mountain West Conference foe San Diego State.
