LAS VEGAS - UNLV defensive back Jamaal Brimmer has been named preseason first team All-America by Athlon Sports, one of the nation's leading preview magazines, which will hit newsstands early next month.
The two-time consensus Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year was named to Athlon's second team a year ago.
Brimmer, a 6-1, 215-pound Las Vegas native and Durango High School graduate, was a first team All-America selection by College Football News after the 2003 season and will be the first All-American to return to UNLV for another season since punter/quarterback Randall Cunningham in 1984.
Brimmer was a 2003 Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist after leading the MWC with six interceptions a year ago to go with 77 tackles, three sacks four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. He also scored two touchdowns in leading the Rebels to road victories over bowl-bound Wisconsin and New Mexico.
