Rebel Draft Day Redux

LAS VEGAS - Three more Rebel baseball players were selected in the 2004 Major League Baseball draft, as senior second baseman Ryan Ruiz, senior right-hander David Seccombe and junior right-hander Matt Minor were all selected in the second day of the draft.

Ruiz was the first to go on Tuesday, being selected in the 19th round by the Oakland Athletics (577th overall). Ruiz, who finished the season with 50 RBI and 6 homers despite missing nearly a month to injury, hit .378 on the year and was named to the Mountain West Conference's All-Tournament team.

Seccombe, was taken in the 29th round (875th overall) by the Boston Red Sox after posting a 9-3 record during his senior season as a Rebel. On the year, Seccombe struck out 90 batters in 93.3 innings on the mound and was the MWC's only three-time recipient of Player of the Week honors.

Minor was selected in the 47th round (1413th overall) by the San Francisco Giants after earning a 4-2 record with two saves during his first season with the Rebels.
