Las Vegas - UNLV baseball head coach Buddy Gouldsmith and his staff will be directing four baseball camps for youth baseball players ages 7 to 18. The Fall Hitting Academy is the first camp offered by Gouldsmith and his staff. It is a weekly hitting camp for serious hitters to work on their swing. Hitters will meet every Monday evening from Sept. 13 through Oct. 4 and campers will go through sessions including batting cage work, live on-field hitting, video view and strength and conditioning sessions. Cost of the camp is $325 for the entire session. Following that camp will be the Thanksgiving Showcase Camp, where high school players will be able to showcase their skills in front of college coaches and professional scouts. The two-day camp is Nov. 13-14 and players will receive instruction in all phases of the game, including hitting, base running and strength and conditioning. Live game situations will also be used. The cost of the camp is $225. UNLV baseball will also offer two holiday camps for players to attend over Christmas break. A two-day hitting camp will be offered Dec. 27-28 that will stress the mechanics, mental approach and fundamentals of swinging. Each hitter will have the opportunity to swing the bat over 1,000 times under the supervision of some of the game's top coaches. Cost of the camp is $150. Immediately following will be a position camp on Dec. 29 for pitchers, catchers, infielders and outfielders. Proper mechanics, strategy and numerous repetitions will be demonstrated, discussed and implemented. Cost of the camp is $100. If a player would like to attend both camps the price is $225.
