Annual Alumni Game Saturday

Jan. 25, 2005

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The 2005 Rebel baseball team will face former teammates and UNLV alums in the annual Alumni Game on Jan. 29, with the first pitch scheduled to be thrown at 1:30 p.m. at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

In addition to the game there will be a home run derby set for 11:30 a.m. In the home run derby, players will be split up by the decade they played in, and each decade will have a champion. Admission is free to the public.

Former Rebels slated to play on Saturday include T.J. Matthews, Fernando Valenzuela Jr., David Trujillo, Jason Reuss, Brent Johnson, Ryan Ruiz, Eric Nielsen, Jack Ayers, John Coats, Ryan Ludwick, Mike Hubel, and Jake Vose.

Coaching the alumni team this year is former Rebel head coach Fred Dallimore, who guided UNLV for 23 seasons, compiling an overall record of 795-558. Dallimore had his No. 13 jersey retired on Jan. 31, 1997, and along with Jerry Tarkanian, are the only two Rebel coaches to have their numbers retired in UNLV history. Dallimore, whose 795 career victories ranks 31st on the NCAA all-time victories list, will be inducted into the UNLV Athletic Hall of Fame on Feb. 4 at the MGM Grand Hotel.

UNLV opens its 2005 regular season at home with a three-game series against Cal State Northridge starting on Feb. 4, 2005, at 6:30 p.m. The Rebels are the two-time defending Mountain West Conference champions.
