FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton's Jose Barragan scored the golden goal 46 seconds into overtime as the Titans escaped with a 2-1 win over UNLV on Sunday afternoon at Titan Stadium. With the loss, the Rebels fall to 2-7 overall, awhile Fullerton improved to 2-5-1.
After a scoreless first half, UNLV got on the board first in the 67th minute, off freshman Lamar Neagle's third score of the year. Mason Trafford sent a cross into the box that Neagle headed into the left post for a 1-0 Rebel advantage.
The Titans would tie the game with just over four minutes remaining in regulation. Arron Craggs took a short pass from Jacob Shumway, dribbled into the box and nailed a shot to the left post to tie the game at 1-1 in the 86th minute.
In overtime, the Titans cleared a ball downfield, and Barragan outraced the Rebel defender to the ball, then stole it away from a sliding Peter Clitheroe in net, before dribbling out and sending in the game-winner into the empty net at 90:47.
UNLV was outshot 22-13 for the game. Clitheroe finished with four saves and two goals allowed for UNLV, while Titan goalie Bobby Armstrong posted five saves to earn the win.
The Rebels will begin conference play this weekend, with road games at Denver on Friday and at Air Force on Sunday.
