SAN DIEGO STATE at UNLV GAME QUOTES
UNLV Quotes:
Head Coach Mike Sanford
ON HIS TEAM'S DEFENSIVE EFFORT: Our defense was tremendous. Vic Shealy (defensive coordinator) told me that we were going to play good and that we had a great plan against this team and I think our defense rose up and played great.
I really believe our defense is going to be a force in the Mountain West Conference from the rest of the year out and they are also going to be a force in the future.
ON THE WIND, WHICH GUSTED TO 25 MPH THROUGHOUT THE GAME: It was good to have the wind in the fourth quarter. We made some decisions on which way we went in the beginning of the second half and it paid off very well because we had the wind as an advantage and they had to punt into it. We had a great situation as far as our field goals being with the wind. I know that Sergio (Aguayo) can make it from 52 anyway, but its nice to have a little extra help behind it.
ON THE EFFORT OF HIS TEAM: Our guys played really hard and kept believing and that is one of the things that we are emphasizing. We did some dumb things and made it difficult on ourselves but at the same time we did the things that you need to do to win. This team is learning how to win.
UNLV kicker Sergio Aguayo: ON HIS CONFIDENCE AT THE END OF THE GAME It gives us confidence that if we are in that situation that I can come through with a field goal. It gives everybody confidence. I know that if I am in that situation that I can make field goals.
ON HAVING THE WIN AT HIS BACK It was really nice. It looked a lot prettier and it went further.
ON THE PLAY OF HIS TEAM TO SET UP HIS GAME-WINNING KICK I got to give a lot of credit to everyone on the team to put me in that situation. A lot goes out to the O line and the D line and the whole team. San Diego Quotes:
Head Coach Tom Craft
Opening quote: I thought our defense played well, certainly, good enough for us to win. The wind was a factor for both teams. It was key in the third quarter. We didn't play as well as we have offensively lately.
On taking their final timeout before Aguayo's FG: We thought we would ice the kicker and set up a block return and try to get the game into overtime.
On the team's play: We didn't control the line of scrimmage well. This wasn't one of our best performances by far. We're disappointed right now.
On team's final possession before halftime and not attempting a FG: I watched the kickers before the game and thought about it (kicking a field goal). The wind was really turning. It probably was a lot worse down on the field than it looked. Would have been hard for (Garrett Palmer) from the 30. So we decided to go for it.
On UNLV's play: Those guys did a good job. They played a great game and beat us.
On team's play following recent wins: We are very disappointed. This was a very winnable game for us, coming off two good efforts at home. We need to play better. Need to regroup and get ready for Utah next week.
