UNLV Offers Holiday Camps

Nov. 18, 2005

LAS VEGAS - The coaching staff of the UNLV baseball program will conduct its Holiday Hitting and Position Camps, scheduled for Dec. 27-29 at Earl E. Wilson Stadium on the campus of UNLV.

Headed by Rebel head coach Buddy Gouldsmith, last year's Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year, the camps are open to 7-18 year olds and will include guest instructors from other collegiate programs and professional instructors.

The Holiday Hitting Camp will stress the mechanics, mental approach and fundamentals of hitting. Each hitter will have the opportunity to swing the bat over 1,000 times under the supervision of some of the game's top coaches. The camp will from 10:00 a.m. (PDT) to 3:00 p.m. on Dec. 27-28 and costs $150.

Following the hitting camp, a one-day position camp will be offered on Dec. 29 with position-specific mechanics, strategy and numerous repetitions demonstrated, discussed and implemented. The position camp will cost $100 and run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A discounted price of $225 is offered to campers who wish to attend both camps.

"I look forward to this camp each year because the focus is so much on instruction. It really allows me as well as other college and professional coaches the opportunity to teach baseball at the grassroots level," Gouldsmith said. "The most rewarding part of my job is teaching the game of baseball as a means to provide the youth of America with the same passion for the game that I have."
