Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - For the second night in a row, UNLV (14-14, 10-6 MWC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead only to let the visiting squad comeback to take the match. The 22nd-ranked BYU Cougars (23-2, 14-2 MWC) surrendered game one 28-30, but fought back with three-straight games of hitting above the .302 mark to win in four. The 28-30, 30-26, 30-22, 30-23 loss ends the regular season for the Rebels and places the squad in fourth for next week's Mountain West Conference Volleyball Tournament to be held Nov. 22-26 at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas.
The Rebels were down 14-9 in game one, but pulled even at 15-15. BYU took the lead once again and pushed ahead by two for most of the game until UNLV knotted the score at 26-26. UNLV scored four of the final six points for the victory.
In game two, the scoring was back and forth with BYU holding a slight edge until ties at 15-15, 16-16 and 17-17. The Cougars held four four-point advantages up until the final score of 30-26.
Games three and four went the way of BYU. By the time the Cougars scored its 10th point in both games, the lead was theirs.
In the match, BYU out hit UNLV .335-to-.208 in hitting and 72-to-61 in kills. BYU had only one game where the attackers hit below the .302 mark (game one's .222). The Rebels hit above .200 on three occasions, but hit a match-low .029 in their third game.
The Rebels were led by a double-double from Brittani Lumsden (10 kills, 14 digs). Maria Aladjova registered a team-high 20 kills, while Lauren Miramontes hit double-figures as well with 10. Melody Nua assisted on 47 kills and Lumsden led the team with her 14 digs.
BYU's Chelsea Goodman had the lone double-double for the Cougars with 21 kills and 13 digs. Goodman and Erica Lott were tops for BYU with 21 kills, apiece. Lauren Evans tossed up 62 assists, while Goodman led the team with her 13 digs. Lindsey Evans (11) and Janvier Beaumont (10) rounded out BYU's double-digit diggers.
