LAS VEGAS - For the first time in Mountain West Conference history, two UNLV Rebel student-athletes were selected to the All-MWC Volleyball Team. Lauren Miramontes and Maria Aladjova were two of 14 student-athletes chosen to comprise the league's 2005 edition.
On the year, Miramontes and Aladjova sit #1 and #2 respectively in UNLV's statistics in kills and kills-per-game. Thus far in 2005, Miramontes averages 3.57 kills-per-game for a year-to-date total of 389 and led the team in kills 14 times. The 389 kills are good enough for fifth-place in UNLV's single-season record book. She sits just outside the top-10 in the single-season total blocks chart, but is 10th in solo bocks (20) and seventh in assisted blocks (85). On Oct. 3, she was named the MWC's Player of the Week due to her efforts in wins over New Mexico and Air Force.
Aladjova has thrown down 369 kills for a 3.45 per-game average. Her kill total places her seventh in the single-season books. On five occasions in 2005, she has notched double-doubles. She had led the team in kills nine times.
