Gantcheva's Autumn Over

Nov. 4, 2005

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Super sophomore Elena Gantcheva saw her impressive fall tournament schedule come to a close as she was eliminated in Friday's Round of 16 at the ITA National Indoor Championships, hosted by The Ohio State University at the Racquet Club of Columbus.

Gantcheva, ranked 24th in the preseason, fell to 15-4 after losing 6-4, 6-3 to fourth-ranked and fifth-seeded Robin Stephenson of Alabama.

"Elena was leading most of the first set but Stephenson just has a perfect game for indoors," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "Elena's semester overall will go down in the record books of UNLV tennis. It's nice to see her go toe to toe with the best players in the country and I see her only getting better and better."

Gantcheva's next action will come on Jan. 13-15 when the school hosts the annual Freeman Memorial Championships.
