LAS VEGAS - Dustin Villepigue scored a team-high 12 points and Michael Umeh added 11 as the UNLV men's basketball team defeated Washburn 73-53 in an exhibition game Tuesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Louis Amundson recorded a game-high 10 rebounds for UNLV, which used a 13-2 run early in the first half to take an 11-point lead with 14 minutes to play. Washburn battled back to cut the deficit to two points at 30-28 with 4:11 left in the half, but UNLV increased the lead back to 11 at halftime, 40-29.
UNLV led by as many as 23 points late in the game, just before Kyle Fisher's 3-pointer went in with a second left to play.
Washburn was led in scoring by J.B. Murray's 12 points. Paul Byers finished with 10, while Kris Milburn led the team in rebounding with nine.
UNLV's Jason Petrimoulx added nine points on 3-of-5 3-pointers and Curtis Terry also scored nine. Jo'Van Adams and Gaston Essengue each chipped in eight.
The Runnin' Rebels out-shot the Ichabods 42.6 percent to 33.3 percent and recorded 46 rebounds to Washburn's 38. UNLV also tallied 18 assists to Washburn's eight.
UNLV will play its second and final exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 11 against Bryant at 7:30 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.
